Author’s Note: Guardian of the Underworld

Author’s Note: Guardian of the Underworld

As Ankhesenamun’s journey draws to an end, I find myself at a loss. I’ve lived with Samun and her friends for so long that I don’t quite know what my life will be without them. I hear her voice in my head, I see snippets of her life as I fall asleep. I’ve dreamed about her more times than I can count. I’m not sure I will ever again write a character who sinks so deeply into my soul. She has left a lasting influence on my life, this woman we know so very little about.

So, as one series ends and another begins, this is a moment to pause and thank those who supported me through these last six books.

The readers who have come with Ankhesenamun and me on this journey.

My precious dogs, who faithfully guarded me while I wrote: Muffin, Bella, Lulu, Molly. The faces have changed through the years, but the comforting presence of a snoring dog is constant.

My parents, Murray and Suzanne, who have enthusiastically supported each new instalment.

My editor, Mary Novak, and her difficult suggestions which always make the story stronger.

The team at Deranged Doctor Design who have produced another series of striking covers for me.

My narrator, Catherine Bilson, who has done a tremendous job with the audiobooks of this series.

The makers of my favourite gin, without which these books would probably never have been finished.

I hope you will join me on another journey now as I pick up the story of Tey and the sisters Ankhesenamun sent away from Egypt.
